Playing golf should be fun. Unfortunately, some golfers forget about that and take their rounds too seriously. Putting too much pressure on yourself can lead to extra frustration, and, ultimately, spoil an otherwise enjoyable experience.

Selecting the right tee box might be one of the easiest ways to set yourself up for success in golf. Just because you play the blue tees at your local country club doesn’t mean you should do so everywhere else—especially if the course rating is more difficult. It’s time for golfers to move beyond the traditional “red, white, and blue” tee box mentality and play the tees that best suit their games.

At Las Sendas Golf Club, we’re proud to offer six sets of tee boxes that cater to almost every skill level. Here are a few suggestions for selecting the right tees at Las Sendas.

6 Sets of Tee Boxes Plus 2 Combo Options

Las Sendas Golf Club is challenging even for scratch golfers. In fact, the course is rated 73.3 from the silver (professional) tees—a player who normally shoots par from the tips should expect to score at least one over at Las Sendas. Why? Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., Las Sendas Golf Club plays over 7,000 yards from the pro tees. Strategically placed bunkers, challenging greens, undulated terrain, close desert proximity, and the “valley effect” are factors to contend with. With six sets of tee boxes to choose from at Las Sendas, golfers get a unique opportunity to play from a skill-appropriate distance. That puts the player in a better position to avoid bad shots, score better, and, most importantly, have fun. Increasing the number of efficient, enjoyable rounds translates into an improved place of play. And, happy golfers are more likely to stop by our restaurant and book future tee times, which benefits the club. It’s a win-win.

Here’s a quick summary of the tee boxes you can choose from at Las Sendas. Download a copy of our scorecard for a detailed look.

Selecting the Right Tee Boxes at Las Sendas

Not sure which tee boxes to play? No worries! Here are a few recommendations to consider.

1. Try playing the tees with yardage similar to your home course. Many golfers take this approach, and sometimes it works well. Keep in mind, however, that Las Sendas may be more challenging than your home course. Be sure to factor in course rating when deciding which tees to play. Opting for a closer set of tees might be wise, especially if this is your first round at Las Sendas. Remember, the goal is to have fun!

2. Use the “recommended tees” table on the scorecard. Las Sendas’ scorecard includes tee box recommendations based on handicap rating. Players with handicaps that seem to fall between recommendations—such as a men’s 13 handicap—might benefit from playing the closer tees or a combo set.

3. Ask the starter for help. Still not sure what to do? Just ask the starter before you begin your round. He or she can help you make a decision based on your experience and skill level.
